For the time being, Rafael Marfil performs unassisted in these modes:
RM live v. 0.9
Live improvisation with high resolution audio and real-time visual feedback. The sound of each synthesizer and all sequences are created live.
Rafael makes use of a MacBook Pro running Logic Pro. A Tascam FW-1082 control surface and a Yamaha-P80 electronic piano allow him to interact with the software via MIDI.
For this live act he developed two applications using Processing, an open programming language. The first one serves as a real-time visual depiction of how he produces music. It consist of visual objects, text and an oscilloscope. They interact with the control surface, the MIDI piano and Logic Pro's sequencer.
The second one transforms MIDI information coming from the Tascam FW-1082's push-buttons to mouse movements and clicks, to control the step sequencers of virtual drum machines, which otherwise would not be controllable with something else than a mouse.
These videos show stages of development up to v. 0.9.

RM lite v. 0.3
Live improvisation. The sound of each synthesizer and all sequences are created live.
Rafael makes use of a Tenori-On for drum sample playback and to create all the sequences, a Waldorf microQ synthesizer is used to create the rest of the sounds. The mix is done on a Makie 402-VLZ3 compact mixer and an iPod is used to play the introduction.
Information about his collaboration with Pammela Rojas can be found at their website www.pr-rm.org. The way he performs on the improvised part of PRRM.live is the same as RM live. For RGB he performs in the same way as he does on RM lite.
